Work – Life – Passion – Meaning

The world has undergone a massive shift since 2020, and with that, there has been more time
for reflection and re-evaluation of what is important in our lives and where we want to focus
our attention and time.
The 9-to-5 workday for 40 years, ending in retirement, somehow does not have the same
motivation as it did 50 years ago when people needed the certainty and security that Corporate
Life offered. Humanity had been through two World Wars and was rebuilding society from the
rubble and destruction of war. By the 1970s, people were noticing that the society they were
building was not based on the family values of the past but rather on fear, greed, and
consumerism. This was shown to be true in the 1980s when big corporations took off and
started ruling the world. More and more rules and regulations emerged, bringing with them
more and more restrictions in thought and action. There was a script, and people did not think
beyond that script.
So many of us were and still are caught up in the belief that work is a means to an end. In the
1940s, after the war, women were encouraged to go out and work because governments saw
the potential for taxation on the female population and corporations saw a cheaper workforce.
The concept of slavery at home and freedom at work to earn one’s own money was pushed
relentlessly. Women were encouraged to be free of the confines of house, husband, and
children. It was as if the whole body of humanity was training its attention on the brain and the
central nervous system, leaving the heart and the intuitive mind/gut to rot, as they could not
possibly be allowed to affect the worker automaton.

However, things are changing.

People have seen that they can be as effective working from home, and in doing so, they have
noticed the things that they have been neglecting: their families, their passions, and the things
that bring meaning to their lives. There has been an awakening to the fact that individuals have
control, and they do not have to live their lives on the treadmill. For too long, the things that
really matter have been put on the back burner or relegated to the weekend or holiday.
The excuse is that the world we live in dictates these behaviours. Everything is so expensive
that we have to have two people working to sustain a household, but surely we do not have to
be in a job that drains us, stresses us to a point of resentment and collapse. Surely it is possible
to be in a career that gives us excitement and scope for growth, which allows us to dictate our
time and gives us the time to pursue the things that really matter. We are so caught up in the
finances of everything that we forget that often we already have the things that really matter:
the supportive spouse, friends and family, a roof over our head, food on the table, and our
health.
Isn’t it time to look at what brings our lives meaning and do that with purpose and passion?
People are attracted to those who are enthusiastic, hardworking, and committed. It is so much
easier to be those things if you are doing something you care about. The world is moving
towards honesty and integrity and away from the fear that is sold to us by the media and
politicians, the powers that be.
As an individual, you have an unparalleled ability to adapt. You have come through a war on
your body and soul with the pandemic, and you have survived. You are in an incredible position
to be a leader and healer in the world, showing those who are stuck that change is possible and
even more fulfilling than the life that you have felt trapped in until now.
There will always be lawyers and bankers, but right now, the world does not need more of
those, the world needs healers. Are you one of them? Consider a career in BodyTalk and help
humanity to heal.
