BodyTalk – Pick a Practitioner

When I was in my first year as a BodyTalk Practitioner, one of my Clients made a remark “I get
better results for physical issues from you, and better results for emotional issues when I go to
Felicity.” It may have been said the other way around, I honestly cannot remember!
But I knew straight away that it would be an exceedingly difficult perception to shift, especially
since it had been made in a group, as the Clients were clearly chatting, referring, and sharing their
BodyTalk experiences. I thought it was remarkably interesting and wondered if it was true. Are
some Practitioners “better’ in certain areas than others?
I know that I have personally chosen between three different Massage Therapists, all of whom are
very skilled, depending on what sort of massage I would like at the time! So, who is the “right”
Practitioner for you? In my opinion – it begins with practicalities, specifically price and distance. I
have never met an unskilled BodyTalk Practitioner, and the training is world class. If you would like
a straightforward series of treatments, it is worthwhile finding someone who matches your
schedule and budget. No matter how committed you are, driving to a different town or through
heavy traffic may make you think twice before booking your next session.
Know that every single Practitioner (in the world) was taught the same techniques. And that every
single Practitioner comes with their own unique understanding, knowledge, interests and
additional concepts and skills they bring to a session. No two sessions are the same with one
Practitioner and likewise with a range of Practitioners. If it suits your mindset, try a few, you will
benefit from them all.
Know that the chemistry and dynamic between you and the Practitioner will be unique too and I
believe it is a significant factor in a longer relationship where you have deeper issues to address.
No matter the extra knowledge the person has, if you find them annoying or unreliable, it will
affect the way in which you receive the sessions. I have a colleague who works close by, and has a
wonderful understanding of the human body, and BodyTalk. When a regular Client of hers comes
to me for a session, they are almost always disappointed! In her sessions, she gives her Clients
homework, and a lot of background information – and they love it and get a lot of meaning from it.
My awareness and focus in a session is towards bringing the nervous system to rest – and
encouraging the Clients to be peaceful, many actually fall asleep. My Practice is airy and, in a
garden, with all the accompanying sounds and inhabitants. That is not a comfortable fit for
everyone. And it does not need to be. What a privilege to have a range of Practitioners to choose
from.
So, what is the best method for choosing a Practitioner? Your gut! Check out their
Website/Bio/Whatsapp profile picture etc. Listen to the words your friends use to describe them.
You will quickly get a sense of the person and how they feel for you.
Ultimately, whether it is BodyTalk, massage, psychological support, or healing, it is your body mind
which is going to do the work. The Practitioner is going to give it useful input, and likely point it in
the right direction – but the journey is yours. The physical journey to the session, the physicalmental-spiritual journey you are on, and the journey to healing, and it knows what serves it best,
step by step. Follow your gut, and if you need to tweak the direction, you will do that too!
